Our planet has now 187 metro systems: 590 lines worldwide with a combined length of 11,086 km serve 9,755 stations*: demand on urban transit systems is increasing in the world's major cities. Mersen supplies solutions for all types of rolling stock:
  • electric and diesel locomotives for freight and passenger use
  • electrical multiple units
  • light rail vehicles
  • metro and tramway systems.

The panel of judges comprising CEOs and HR directors from international groups and specialist journalists paid tribute in particular to the commitment shown by the Group and its senior executives to the health and safety of its employees. Some initiatives rolled out right across the Group:
  • survey of employee well-being in the workplace
  • organization of health & safety weeks
  • systems to detect Repetitive Stress Injuries (RSI)
  • education programs to managers in France concerning psycho-social risks

Fabius Henrion factory was opened up in Pagny-sur-Moselle to manufacture lamps. In 1937, the firm, which had become La Compagnie Lorraine des Charbons pour l'Electricité in 1927, merged with Le Carbone to form the Carbone Lorraine group, Mersen’s predecessor.   While its business activities have changed as the industry has advanced, it remains one of the Group’s key manufacturing facilities and is now devoted to chemical engineering activities. Mersen - Pagny sur Moselle To mark its 120th anniversary in 2012, the plant is holding a special open day to be attended by local dignitaries and officials, with current and retired Group employees playing a major role. The program includes: guided tours around the impressive equipment manufacturing workshops (heat exchangers, stirrers and mixers, columns and systems for the chemicals industry), inauguration of a new showroom, workshops for all covering different aspects of the business and safety in particular, led by 80 volunteers from the workforce in a fun and family-friendly environment.

Almost 28,000 women participated in this 6 km-race (created in 1997) from the “Iéna Bridge” to the “Ecole Militaire” buildings, on September 9th, in the heart of Paris.

"Mersen Women" formed a team to take part in this friendly event of solidarity, as beyond the sporting event, "La Parisienne" is also an opportunity to promote the fight against breast cancer. Through actions undertaken throughout the year in addition to the race, funds are raised to finance the Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale's projects, a French foundation for medical research.

Following these meetings, several students were selected for internships at Mersen, in France or abroad, in such diverse areas as finance, marketing or logistics.

    STUDENT'S CHALLENGE "TALENT SEARCH" ("LA CROISÉE DES TALENTS")


    400 students from "Grandes Ecoles" (engineering and business colleges), or universities attended this event in Deauville, France, on March 2 and 3, 2012. Students with various academic backgrounds competed in 4 unique categories (negotiation, decision making...). Mersen took part in the Business forum held during this management competition.

Deutsche Carbone AG, the subsidiary made it through two world wars without any change in ownership and it has steadily built up its international presence over the past few years through a combination of organic growth and selective acquisitions. . To mark its 115th anniversary, the subsidiary celebrated this Franco-German success story in the presence of Luc Themelin, Chairman of Mersen’s Management Board, and of Jean-Claude Tribolet, the Consul General of France in Frankfurt. In his address, Luc Themelin, Chairman of the Mersen’s Management Board, said: "Any technology company that wants to play a leading role needs to be present in Germany. That is why we are continuing to invest in our German subsidiaries here. We look forward to the next 115 years of this successful Franco-German cooperation, characterized by technological innovation, a keen sense of civic duty and strong corporate governance."
