HIGH TEMPERATURE SEALING MATERIALS FOR INDUSTRY

Mersen’s offer in industrial sealing is based on three major product families.

1. Papyex®: Flexible graphite made from natural graphite flakes.

As a substitute for asbestos, this material can be used to produce an extensive array of gaskets adapted to the most severe sealing specifications:

  • valve packing for the nuclear industry,
  • refinery flange gaskets,
  • head gaskets for the automotive industry.

Ideal for sealing systems, the Papyex® flexible graphite is used in many additional applications:

  • Heating elements in laboratory ovens owing to its fineness and easy transformation properties.
  • Thermal protection in high-temperature furnaces owing to its reflecting power.
  • Protection of rigid insulation from erosion and corrosion caused by vapors.
  • Heat distribution and dissipation of hot spots, notably during brazing operations.
  • Protection of molds during casting operations.

2. Reinforced flexible graphite: graphite gasket sheets, reinforced with metal inserts and covered with non stick coating.
They are tailored to meet the exacting purity specifications of the chemical, petrochemical, refining, nuclear and aerospace industries.

3. Turbograf: labyrinth seal for rotating shafts to seal gases and vapours
(rotary shaft of fans, extractors, turbo-compressors, driers, water turbines)
In terms of dynamic sealing, our TURBOGRAF sealing systems made from carbon and graphite materials are used in a wide variety of applications in aggressive environments: pump shafts, mixers and fans used in the chemical, nuclear, paper, and iron and steel industries…
