With 50% of its sales tied to sustainable development in 2018, Mersen is recognized for its know-how and support for green industries. The Group’s expertise enables it to propose innovative solutions which fully contribute to the fight against global warming.
Mersen solutions support the development and growth of renewable energies (photovoltaic solar energy, wind power, hydroelectricity), energy efficiency, (furnace insulation, heat recovery systems…) thus helping to reduce our customers’ manufacturing processes production costs and power consumption.
For example, our components used for speed drives help optimizing the output of industrial equipment.
We also support the development of clean transportation through solutions that improve the performance and reliability of urban and rail mass transit and infrastructure.The Group also helps car manufacturers with hybrid and electric vehicle production.

Mersen optimizes the ecological footprint of its products at every stage of their life cycle -from raw materials consumption reduction to waste production, drawing inspiration from the virtuous circular economy model.
Mersen boasts the best available techniques to design its new manufacturing lines and products. From the initial design phase, this approach, called eco-design, factors in a product’s environmental impact throughout its life cycle.
- Requirements and specification: Trained in eco-design, the R&D teams at Mersen integrate environmental impact reduction targets into the specifications of new products.
- Monitoring and measuring impacts: Mersen uses a suite of tools to monitor and measure the impact of its products in real conditions.
A proactive environmental policy
Mersen has environmentally sound practices that allows us to achieve maximum control over the impact of all our industrial operations including, regulatory compliance, monitoring our facilities, using resources responsibly, managing emissions and pollution even if our industrial activity has little environmental impact.
One of the priority commitments set by Mersen is related to the management of emissions and waste.
In 2018, Mersen defined an action plan with a 3-years target:

A dedicated management system
Mersen decided to implement an environmental management system supported by the Executive Committee.
This commitment by the Executive Committee takes the form of a dedicated management system and regular reviews associated with internal objectives covering a number of themes, including:
- Compliance with regulations in force for products and facilities;
- Monitoring of facilities;
- Using resources responsibly (materials and components, water and energy);
- Greenhouse gas emissions, pollution of air and water, and waste from our facilities.
