Mersen supplier to a new-generation train
Mersen, supplier to the RER NG, a new-generation train inaugurated by Île-de-France Mobilités and SNCF Voyageurs
Paris, November 16, 2023 – Mersen, a global expert in electrical power and advanced materials, is part of the key suppliers to the RER NG, a new-generation train inaugurated on November 13, 2023 by Île-de-France Mobilités, SNCF Voyageurs and Alstom. The train will operate on the RER D and E commuter rail lines in the Greater Paris region.
With its dual expertise in Advanced Materials and Electrical Power, Mersen is involved in the project as a supplier to the project’s stakeholders, Alstom, Faiveley Transport (Wabtec Group) and the SNCF.
Mersen has provided laminated busbars and cooling devices for the converters powering the traction motors, as well as fuses to protect the power systems and the control circuit. The success of the project is the product of longstanding collaboration with Alstom’s engineering, purchasing and supply teams, both in France and in India, where the traction converters are manufactured.
Mersen has also supplied pantograph strips to deliver power to the train via the catenary. Designed and manufactured in northern France, these strips are the result of cutting-edge technology using a material specially developed for high-intensity applications. Mersen will provide replacement parts in the years to come.
