Counterfeiting: a growing global threat
Counterfeiting is a growing global issue affecting many industrial sectors. At Mersen, we are committed to helping our customers protect their installations, their teams, and their performance.

Counterfeit products
Products that look genuine, but are not
Products falsely bearing the Mersen name or Mersen product references are currently circulating on the market, often originating from unverified or high‑risk sources.
Counterfeit products are designed to resemble authentic ones. While they may look similar at first glance, they do not come from Mersen's factories and do not meet our quality, performance, or safety requirements.

No compliance with Mersen quality standards
Why counterfeit products are dangerous
Some counterfeit products may visually appear authentic, with:
- similar molding,
- similar design,
- similar packaging,
- imitated labels or markings.
However, these products are not manufactured by Mersen, have not been tested according to Mersen quality standards, and do not offer any performance or safety guarantees.
Mersen cannot accept any responsibility or liability for products that:
- are not manufactured by Mersen,
- are purchased outside authorized distribution channels,
- do not comply with Mersen specifications and standards.
As a result, counterfeit products are not covered by Mersen warranties and Mersen cannot be held liable for damages caused by counterfeited products.
-
Risks to health and safety.
Proven risks to safety and installations
International studies and industry analyses show that counterfeit industrial products can pose significant risks to health and safety.
Due to the absence of quality control, non‑compliance with standards, and the use of substandard components, counterfeit products may lead to:
- critical equipment failures,
- overheating,
- fire hazards,
- damage to installations and systems.
These risks are particularly critical in electrical and industrial environments.
-
Unreliable performance and shortened lifespan
Counterfeit products do not benefit from Mersen’s industrial expertise, engineering know‑how, or rigorous testing processes.
As a result, they often deliver:
- inconsistent or weak performance,
- reduced reliability over time,
- significantly shorter service life.
This can negatively impact productivity, maintenance costs, and operational continuity.

How to be sure you are purchasing an authentic Mersen product?
- by purchasing exclusively from Mersen or authorized Mersen distributors,
- when the product is supplied with verified technical data, certificates, and traceability information whenever required by the customer.
Products purchased through unofficial online marketplaces, unknown resellers, or offered at unusually low prices should be considered suspicious.
-
What to do if you suspect a counterfeit product?
If you believe a product may be counterfeit:
- Do not install or use the product.
- Keep the product, its packaging, and purchase documentation.
- Contact Mersen through official channels.
- Provide photos, references, and any relevant information to support verification.
Our teams will assist you in assessing the situation and taking appropriate action.
This page is intended for general information purposes and reflects Mersen’s commitment to product integrity and customer safety.
