Although Mersen took its first steps in France, the Group quickly made its mark internationally.
The beginnings of the company in France
Our story begins in 1889 when the Eiffel Tower was inaugurated at the Paris Universal Exhibition.
In the Paris region, the company Le Carbone was set up to produce industrial carbon.
In the Nancy region, the Compagnie Lorraine de Charbons began manufacturing generators and electric motors.
The 2 groups merged in 1937 to give birth to Le Carbone Lorraine company, which is where the current Mersen group first began.
True to the spirit of its founders, the Group is today pursuing its developmentall over the world. Mersen draws on the expertise of local teams and implement an approach characterized by genuine closeness with its customers.
Today
At the end of the 1990s, the Group continued to expand internationally and turned its focus to Asia, Japan, India and China, a region of strong growth.
In 2021, 2 new plants joined the Group:
- one in Changxing (China), and
- one in Mauburg (Germany) from the acquisition of the company GAB Neumann.
